"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,[1]
and I will give you
rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble
in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and
my burden is light" (Matt 11:28-30; NIV).
Jerusalem Perspective Online's discussion forum is a wonderful learning
arena. Under the topic "Take
My Yoke Upon You" you will find an enlightening discussion about the
"yoke" of the commandments. Stephen Branch, Jim Fox, Rick Carpenter, Jen
Wilson and Forum Moderator Dennis Sullivan have provided some very
pertinent information. I, too, joined the discussion, adding a few
comments of my own. In this article, I would like to expand on my Forum
comments. Although extraordinarily beautiful, Jesus' saying recorded in
Matthew 11:28-30 is enigmatic. What is this saying's meaning, and what was
Jesus' "yoke" and "burden"?
